To carry forward the spirit of Qian Xuesen—characterized by rigorous pragmatism and a commitment to serving the nation through science—and to cultivate students’ exceptional mathematical competence, the Grade 11 Mathematics Department at Nanning Oriental Foreign Language Senior High School recently organized a personalized mathematics-themed competition titled “Upholding the Scientific Spirit, Fostering Outstanding Competence.” Through this competition, students are encouraged to learn by competing and to think critically by showcasing their work, thereby creating a high-quality platform for self-expression, exchange, and continuous improvement.
01
Issue event announcements and prepare independently to build momentum.
In the lead-up to the event, the Grade 11 Mathematics Department officially issued a competition notice, opening four categories to all Grade 11 students: the Mathematical Rigor and Computational Challenge, Mathematical Modeling and Applied Practice, In-Depth Exploration of Multiple Solutions to a Single Problem, and a Theme-Based Presentation Honoring Scientists. Students may choose their preferred track and, during the four-day March 3 holiday, engage in self-directed learning, independent creation, and meticulous preparation, further developing their mathematical skills and honing their scientific thinking outside of regular class time.
02
Submitted as part of a portfolio, subject to professional evaluation by teachers.
Following the holiday, all participating students submitted their individual projects on time. Teachers from the Grade 10 Mathematics Department rigorously evaluated each entry against four key criteria—disciplinary expertise, innovation, rigor, and intellectual depth—conducting a meticulous review and comprehensive assessment. From among the many submissions, they selected a group of outstanding works distinguished by originality of theme, sound logic, in-depth inquiry, and high-quality content, and finalized the list of projects to be showcased.

Submitted as part of a portfolio, subject to professional evaluation by teachers.
The winners of the outstanding works will present their achievements in a集中 exhibition. At the presentation, students take to the stage one by one, clearly and systematically sharing, with reference to their own projects, the rationale behind their topic selection, their problem-solving approaches, the computational derivations, and their reflections on the research process.
After each student’s presentation, the mathematics faculty provided precise, on-the-spot feedback.
On the one hand, it fully affirms the work’s strengths:
We commend the students for selecting topics that are closely aligned with real-world issues, demonstrating rigorous logical reasoning, engaging in profound inquiry, and expressing sincere patriotism—qualities that combine the rigor of the sciences with a spirit of innovation.
On the other hand, targeted optimization recommendations are put forward:
Providing expert guidance on aspects such as problem-solving conventions, broadening approaches, in-depth exploration, and elevating thematic depth, we help students identify gaps in their understanding and refine their skills for continuous improvement.
04
Recognition and awards to inspire, uniting efforts to forge ahead with determination.
At the conclusion of the event, an awards ceremony was held to recognize the outstanding students. Teachers presented certificates of merit to the winners and encouraged all second-year high school students to take these exemplary peers as role models—upholding the spirit of science, cultivating a strong mathematical foundation, honing their skills through rigorous scholarship, pushing beyond their limits with innovative thinking, and shouldering their responsibilities with a sense of national pride and commitment—to strive to become top-tier, innovation-driven talents.

This mathematics competition not only honed students’ fundamental mathematical and scientific skills but also deepened their scientific spirit and sense of national responsibility. Moving forward, the Grade 11 Mathematics Group will continue to organize distinctive subject‑based practical activities, helping students soar on the wings of mathematics and ignite their aspirations with the torch of critical thinking, steadily advancing on their journey toward their dreams.
