After the 2018 Gaokao results were announced, the parents’ group at the Affiliated Experimental School of Guangxi University of Foreign Languages erupted in excitement: admitted three years ago with a C+ grade on the junior high school entrance exam, and this year scoring 600 points in the science stream—could such a miracle really be possible?

With these questions in mind, we visited schools and parents one by one and eventually confirmed that the story was true: Three years ago, a female student from Nanning earned a C+ grade on her junior high school entrance exam. She went to more than a dozen ordinary secondary schools across the city, but none would accept her into their senior high programs, leaving her family deeply anxious. In July, they braved sweltering temperatures of 30 to 40 degrees Celsius, running from place to place—sometimes so exhausted they felt ready to cry. At their lowest point, a kind friend suggested they try Guangxi Foreign Languages Institute Affiliated Experimental School (formerly Nanning Oriental Foreign Languages School), which had just resumed enrolling students for high school in 2015, perhaps offering a chance. Clinging to a sliver of hope, the family rushed to the school. The admissions officer told them the student’s grades were too poor to be admitted; if they really wanted her to attend, they would need special approval from the principal and a written guarantee. Over the next three days, the family repeatedly sought out the school’s leadership. With the principal’s consent, the student finally secured a place.

Three years later, when the college entrance exam results were announced, a miracle unfolded: the student scored 600 points in the science stream, and her entire family was overjoyed. Her parents remarked objectively that, judging by their daughter’s performance, the school had demonstrated great responsibility, and the teachers’ instructional expertise was truly outstanding.

Following the release of the college entrance examination results, the school decided to organize a team of expert professors to launch a research project titled “Unveiling the Genetic Code Behind Guangxi Foreign Languages Institute Affiliated Experimental School’s Breakthroughs in the Gaokao,” with the aim of summarizing lessons learned, disseminating achievements, and building a strong institutional brand. As part of the second phase of this study, the school issued an open call across Guangxi and even nationwide, inviting students, parents, teachers, and educational institutions who entered the school between 2008 and 2018 with C+ grades in the junior high school entrance exam and later achieved 600 points in the science stream of the Gaokao to participate in the research and experimental phases. However, more than twenty days have passed, and not a single applicant has come forward. As the saying goes: “If you don’t have the strength of a diamond, why take on porcelain work?” Tackling such an exceptionally challenging teaching and research endeavor is indeed no small feat.

Admission Scope for the Fall Semester of 2018

1. Pre-kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5, and Grade 6;

2. Grade 7, Grade 8, Grade 9, Grade 10, and Grade 11;

3. In the first year of senior high school, 14 classes with a total of 756 students will be admitted, and boarding facilities are provided. The specialized classes include: ① Fine Arts Class: 40 students; ② Music Performance Class: 40 students; ③ Broadcasting and Hosting Class: 40 students; ④ Radio, Television, and Film Directing Class: 40 students.

4. Senior Year College Entrance Exam Prep Class: 100 students.
