The event aims to summarize the achievements of our school’s green classroom teaching, which has been implemented for more than four years, and to further explore ways to deepen its development, with the hope of standardizing, refining, and enhancing all aspects of green classroom instruction. At the same time, we sincerely sought valuable insights and constructive suggestions from various stakeholders on our school’s green classroom reform. The event was held on December 20 and 21, 2019, in the recording studio of the Mingde Lecture Hall at our institution. Educators from within and outside the district, friendly partner organizations, and leaders from higher-level education authorities gathered at the Affiliated Experimental School of Guangxi Foreign Languages College.

Principal Yang Zhenyi of the High School delivered the opening address, extending a warm welcome to all the distinguished leaders and teacher representatives from sister schools who have traveled far to attend. He expressed his hope that everyone would engage in open and candid discussions, share insights, and offer valuable guidance to our school.

Teacher Tang Bangping from the high school department, as our school’s representative, delivered a high‑quality open lesson at the demonstration event. He vividly and authentically showcased the “one standard, one table, three procedures” instructional model of the Green Classroom to the attending delegates. During the class, students, guided by the lesson’s knowledge objectives, began with questions, engaged in collaborative group inquiry to analyze and resolve difficulties, reached a shared understanding, and finally applied what they had learned through practice. The classroom featured dynamic teacher–student and peer interactions, creating a lively yet well‑organized atmosphere; sparks of student thought continuously emerged as ideas collided, truly making students the masters of their own learning. Teacher Tang’s outstanding open lesson earned widespread recognition from the participating educators. In his concluding remarks, Director Dai Qimeng of the Municipal Institute of Educational Sciences specifically commented on Teacher Tang’s lesson and offered it high praise.

Following the open class, Vice Principal Tang Bangping of the high school division, on behalf of the school, delivered a vivid and poetic overview of our institution’s green‑classroom teaching reform under the theme “That Glimmer of Green at GDUFS Affiliated School.” He articulated the process across four distinct phases: “Exploring the Green Classroom—Like a Spring Breeze That Comes Overnight”; “Implementing the Green Classroom—As Thousands Upon Thousands of Pear Blossoms Bloom”; “Cultivating the Green Classroom—Willingly Wearing Oneself Out for Its Sake”; and “Showcasing the Green Classroom—Though My Belt Grows Ever Thinner, I Never Regret It.” His presentation provided attendees and representatives from sister schools with a clear, comprehensive, and thoroughly grounded understanding of our school’s green‑classroom reform. In closing, Vice Principal Tang drew upon the poetic rhythm of Zhu Xi’s Song‑dynasty verse “Reflections on Reading,” composing a lighthearted yet heartfelt poem that encapsulated the original vision of our green‑classroom initiative: “At GDUFS Affiliated School, educational reform has begun; we seek answers and resolve doubts without hesitation. Tell me, where can one find such an inspiring classroom? It is because our students have truly come alive.” His witty, engaging, and passionately delivered remarks left the audience feeling as though they had been basking in a gentle spring breeze.

Next, Liu Lian, a student from Grade 6, Class 5 of our school’s primary division, shared that “the Green‑Inspired Active Classroom has brought me joy in learning”; Liu Yifei, from Grade 8, Class 4 of the junior high division, explained that “collaborative inquiry in class has helped me resolve my academic challenges”; Xiang Ting, from Grade 11, Humanities Class 3 of the senior high division, noted that “the Green‑Based Problem‑Solving Classroom has transformed my approach to mastering knowledge”; and Teacher Xu Ye Hui of the junior high division recounted “some of my insights and experiences in implementing green‑classroom problem‑solving instruction.” Representing the school’s more than 4,000 teachers and students, each spoke from the perspective of an experiencer, sharing their own gains and reflections.

Ms. Lu Shunyan, from the Editorial Department of “Research on Classroom Teaching in Primary and Secondary Schools” at Guangxi Education Publishing House; Mr. Liao Hui, Deputy Director of the Education Bureau of Shangsi County, Guangxi, and Principal of Shangsi Middle School; and Mr. Dai Qimeng, Director of the Municipal Institute of Educational Sciences, each delivered a keynote address from their respective perspectives, representing the attending guests and leaders.

Among the presentations, the keynote address by Director Dai Qimeng of the Nanning Municipal Institute of Educational Sciences once again profoundly moved all of us teachers—four years earlier, he had visited our school to deliver a talk titled “Professional Leadership in Life, Focused Efforts to Enhance Well‑Being.” Drawing on his firsthand observations, Director Dai presented a paper entitled “‘Green Classrooms and Green Development’—Reflections on Attending the Guangwai Affiliated School’s ‘Green Classroom’ Demonstration,” in which he offered high praise for our green classroom model. He described it as a classroom that champions democracy, fosters collaborative inquiry, prioritizes emergent learning, and honors the dignity of life. At the same time, Director Dai did not forget to offer us thoughtful guidance, outlining three key recommendations: first, to establish more platforms that nurture a team of distinguished teachers within our institution, fully leveraging their leadership to support teachers’ professional growth; second, to create additional opportunities for school‑based research, grounded in subject‑specific teaching and conducted across grade levels, so as to further refine and unleash the potential of green classrooms; and third, to emphasize routine, maintain consistency, focus on the classroom, and engage in ongoing classroom‑level inquiry, striving to make our lessons even more dynamic and inspiring. Finally, drawing on his decades of experience in educational reform, Director Dai shared his insights under the rubric of “Four Dimensions of an Outstanding Classroom,” allowing our Guangwai faculty to once again appreciate the fulfilling life of this dedicated leader of the Nanning Municipal Institute of Educational Sciences, who remains deeply committed to advancing educational innovation at the front lines.

The event concluded with remarks by Principal Huang Haifei, Executive Principal of the main campus, on “Why We Compiled the Book ‘The Construction and Practice of Green Inquiry-Based Classrooms,’” followed by a speech from Vice Principal Liang Zhurong, the chief designer of our school’s green classroom initiative. On behalf of Principal Huang Can, he extended gratitude to the distinguished leaders and guests, as well as to teachers from sister schools, and offered words of encouragement to our own faculty.

Water has a source, so its flow never runs dry; trees have roots, so their growth knows no end. Past experiences pave the way for our dreams, while past shortcomings fuel our journey toward them. We hope that, under the wise leadership of the school’s administrative team, all teachers will learn from one another, advance together, and once again bring the school’s green classroom‑based teaching reform to new heights!

To ensure the success of this Green Classroom showcase, on Friday, December 20, during the seventh period, Teacher Huang Haistiao from the Elementary Division will deliver a public English demonstration lesson titled “Green Fun‑Driven Learning”; during the eighth period, Teacher Luo Xiaoxiang from the Middle School Division will present a public physics demonstration lesson under the “Green Problem‑Solving” framework.
